Fernanda Fragateiro was born in Montijo, a town in the Lisbon area, in 1962. Now the artist works and lives in Lisbon, where she studied at the Academy of Fine Arts. Fernanda Fragateiro had her first exhibi¬tion in 1981.

Fernanda Fragateiro creates sculptures, installations or architectonical sculptures that in¬teract with space and people. She works also in public and land art.

In 2008 she realized several projects, between others a site-specific installation “Don’t See” at the Alcobaça Monastery / 7 Wonders EDP, and an installation in Portimão for “Holidays in the Sun”, a project curated by João Fernandes, director of Serralves Museum, for the Allgarve Program. In 2007, she opened the solo show “Don’t think” / “Don’t Forget” at the Casa da Música (Music and Concert Hall in Oporto). That year she presented also a solo show and architectonical installation with the name “Caixa Para Guardar o Vazio/Box for keeping the Empty” at the CCB in Lisbon. Another exhibition was “Expectativa de uma Paisagem de Acontecimentos/Expectations of Landscape of Happenings” shown 2007 at the Gallery Lino António of the António Arroio School in Lisbon, after its first presentation in 2006 at the Gallery Elba Benítez in Madrid.

Fernanda Fragateiro is represented in Portuguese public and private collections, e.g. the Berardo Collection and the collection of the bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos in Lisbon, the Serralves Collection in Oporto or the António Cachola collection, in Elvas; in Spain her works are represented in the renown collections of the Museu Nacional Centro de Arte Reina Sofía, in the Museum of Contemporary Art in Malaga, and the MEIAC, in Badajoz, among others.
