She was born in 1971, in Caldas da Rainha, where she graduated at the Academy of Fine Arts. She lives and works in Lisbon, having her first exhibitions in the first decade of the 21st century. Cecília Costa is a multi-faceted artist: she works not only in photography but also in video, installation and drawing.
Her starting point is normally the human figure, questioning the concepts of perception, identity and auto-representation. Her last individual shows were in 2007, Chatellet les halles at the Room Poste It in Oporto; and in 2005 the exhibition Pli – a series of works in photography – exhibited in Oporto, in Coimbra and in Lisbon at the Baginski, Gallery / Projectos. She was also selected by the curator Isabel Carlos to participate at the Sidney Biennial in 2004. Her works are represented in the collections of the PLMJ Foundation, the BESArt Collection, at the Ilídio Pinho Collection and the Isabel and Julião Sarmento Collection. download .pdf file |
