André Romão was born in 1984 In Lisbon. He is currently living and working in Berlin on an artist residency award at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien, through a scholarship from Fundação Calouste Gulbenkian.
The artist graduated in Design of Communication from the College of Fine Arts of Lisbon. In his work, André leads the viewer to an artistic universe that convokes literature, poetry, philosophy and history, working with various media including drawing, photo, video and installation. In 2007 he held a solo show at Kunsthalle Lissabon and was present at Solo Projects, ARCO Madrid (curated by Adriano Pedrosa). In the second half of this year he was invited to participate in group shows at Electricity Museum/EDP Foundation, Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation and Serralves Museum, the last two linked to the centenary commemorations of the Portuguese Republic. In 2009, he participated in the group shows “ Desenhos [Drawings] A-Z. Colecção Madeira Corporate Service” at City Museum, Lisbon (curated by Adriano Pedrosa), “Democracia entre Tiranos” at Pedro Cera Gallery, Lisbon, and “JENSEITS” at En Blanco, Berlin, Germany. In 2008, he had work in the group shows “Ocorrência” at Baginski, Gallery / Projects, “Luoghi per Eroi” (curated by Lorenzo Bruni) at Vilanuova Arte Contemporânea in Florence, “A River Ain´t Too Much To Love” in Spike Island, Bristol and “Tracção” at ArteContempo , Lisbon. In 2007 he participated in the exhibition “Antes que a Produção Cesse” at Espaço Avenida, and in 2006 “A Derrota” (with Gonçalo Sena), Galeria Lagar do Azeite, Oeiras and “O Pavilhão de Augusta Naval”, Lisbon. download .pdf file |
