Born in Lisbon in 1951, he continues to live and work in the Portuguese capital.
André Gomes began his career 30 years ago, in the 70s of the 20th Century. Before work¬ing in fine arts, he had several experiences in cinema and theatre. His work develops al¬ways on the base of photography, using amplified Polaroids. His interest in the forms and their meaning are explored by the artist. In 2008, he presents the solo show “It was in the old house…” at the Museum of Electricity, EDP Foundation, Lisbon. A recent solo show was “Macha” (2007), and has been shown at the City Theatre of Almada and in a new version at the CAV - Centre of Visual Arts in Coimbra. With this work series, André Gomes has been nominated for the BES PHOTO Award 2008, with a juri composed of Miguel von Hafe Perez, Delfim Sardo and Nuno Cera. Another series of works, “Lumen” (2006) was presented at the National Museum Soares dos Reis in Oporto, and at the National Museum of Antique Art in Lisbon. André Gomes is represented in several important Portuguese collections, as in the one of the bank Caixa Geral de Depósitos, the collection of the Modern Art Centre of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, the Serralves Collection, the Contemporary Art Museum of Elvas, and the P.L.M.J Foundation, among others. download .pdf file |
